It has been exciting and gratifying to see our American Museum of Natural History exhibition Darwin traveling to so many different places around the world since it first opened in New York in 2005. As it has moved it has evolved: This new Italian version, Darwin 1809-2009, is especially excellent, retaining the original contents, now enriched with distinctly Italian Darwinian features.
|
These include the extensive Italian fossil evidence for human evolution; Darwin's many connections with Italian scientists; and the fact that Darwin's initial thoughts on evolution, encountered in his geological notes written while on board the Beagle and also in his "Red Notebook" shortly after returning to England, were absolutely dependent on the thinking of the Italian geologist Giovanni Battista Brocchi. This is a new discovery - and a perfect addition to the Italian version of the Darwin exhibition. My congratulations to Codice. Idee per la cultura and the brilliant work of the organizers, designers and writers of this important exhibition!
